Meelz has been a nervous wreck ever since we boarded the plane. She refused to wear a sweater of her own and wanted to wear mine to hide her bump, which pissed me off and ended up with us arguing before we left, then her bent over the counter with my cock in her. She finally relaxed a little after that, but not much. When we landed in New York and she began to shut down, I relented and handed her my hoodie which seemed to ease some of her stress. After I collected our rental, she seemed to retreat further inside herself. The entire drive to her family’s compound she hasn’t uttered a word.

I come to a stop at the front of the gates which signals we have arrived. The guard steps forward and sees that’s it me and her so he opens the gates. I drive through and head straight for Bishop’s house, knowing they will all be there waiting. Sure enough, the moment we pull up out front I see King, Knight, Rook and Allison standing there. I climb out of the car and face them. King tries to take a step toward us but I shake my head, forcing him to halt his movements.

“Give me a minute, she… needs a moment.”

His gaze hardens. Knight and Rook shift as if to reach for their guns but Allison steps in front of them all eyeing me warily.

“Is she hurt?” she asks.

“Not… physically.” She sucks in a sharp breath at my answer, trying to peer around me but It’s no use, she won’t see her. I pay them no mind as I round the car and open Meelz’s door, crouching down beside her. She keeps her gaze ahead and refuses to even look at me. “I am right here, I’ll watch your back and be at your side the entire time. I’ll be your shield and pull you out at a second's notice. I won’t let this shit eat you up any longer.” She slowly tilts her head toward me and her bottom lip trembles.

“I ruined him,” she whispers brokenly. I snap my arm out and grip the back of her head, pulling her forward until our foreheads touch.

“No. You saved your family from falling apart, baby. You are the reason why the Murdoch family is as strong as they are. You mended your broken family the day you came into all their lives, don’t let the pain of your past keep you from living.”

“Don’t let me go, okay,” she pleads.

“Never,” I vow. I help her out of the car and keep my back to her family to shield her from their sight, knowing she needs a second. When she looks up at me and nods, I interlock our fingers, then step aside so they can see her. The moment Allison and King lay eyes on their daughter they look like a weight has been lifted off their shoulders. I guide her toward them. The tension radiating between the three of them is suffocating, the front door opens and Bishop, Gage and Carlina step outside.
